I like to think of myself as a pretty driven person, but last Friday I went to a Lunchworks talk which showed me, that you can always shift it up a gear and there is always more to be achieved.

The 8th Lunchworks was a meet with Ruth Daniel, who works for ‘Unconvention’ I won’t attempt to explain EVERYTHING it is that she does but it is seriously impressive.

But the one thing that really stuck with me was that she explained behind everything she does, she has 3 goals which she is always working towards, and she sees every move as a step closer to achieving one of these goals. Some goals will take years, others will be completed in a couple of months ready for a new one to take its place.

This really hit home, I think when you are a driven person, working in the creative industries it is hard to pin point what you have achieved. We have different benchmarks to your usual 9-5 career, we probably won’t get a pay rise every year, most creative people don’t have the usual badges of success, a big house, a new car etc. So when we sit comparing ourselves to others it can be hard to pin point just what it is we have done.

I know I have experienced that A LOT recently, but when you simmer it down to your 3 life goals, and know that every day you work on a creative project you are learning a new skill, meeting a new person, making a break through that takes you one step closer to your much bigger aspirations.

You can find out more about Lunchworks here where I believe the video of Ruth will be uploaded soon! And  I’d keep an eye out on this site for future Lunchworks – it’s worth it just for the quiche, trust me!
